From now on, February will be about the furmint variety. I have already kicked off in style, and the rest is yet to come.
The Vinoport guys have launched the nationwide Furmint February programme last year. It was a real success, several wine sellers and restaurants joined, serving special offers on furmints, plus a public festival tasting took place with some 30-50 winemakers presenting their furmints.
This year the grand tasting takes place in Vajdahunyad Castle, Museum of Agriculture, tickets cost 6900 HUF, pricing, payments & list of the 46 participants are available here, or just mail them here.
The Terroir Club holds a Premium Furmint Tasting on 17 February 2011 including a few landmark wines like the prototype Királyudvar Úrágya 2000 and the legendary Szepsy Szent Tamás 2003. The Királyudvar Lapis Vinyard Late Harvest Vertical will also be quite spectacular for terroir expression at this tasting. The event is limited to 12 persons, so hurry up.
A Hollóvár tasting is also being organized there on 24 February, including a (mini) Hollóvár furmint vertical from 2006 on, plus some extras.
This is what we have for the moment, feel free to attend, and get to know furmint. It is February, after all…
